Organization’s Objective

The debate is no longer over whether global warming is a threat, or even whether we should take action. The debate is now what scale of action will be taken, when, and whether it will be enough. This rapid shift has set the stage for youth to make immediate demands for bold and comprehensive action by our elected and appointed officials, corporate leaders and other key decision-makers. We are at a moment of critical opportunity. Having supported the advancement of a burgeoning youth clean energy movement, we now stand ready to make its momentum and power increasingly felt on and off campuses, with the call for a historic effort to fundamentally transform the way our global society produces and consumes energy--creating new social and economic systems with clean, just, and sustainable energy supplies. In a recent survey conducted by Harvard University, Energy and Environmental issues ranked in the top set of issues young people are concerned about. At other times in our history, youth have been the vanguard of such transformative social movements. Thousands of students have already led their campuses to invest in energy efficiency, purchase green energy, and create additional strategies to reduce their schools' global warming footprints. These students are making global warming one of the hottest issues on campuses today. Youth are poised to leverage their passion off-campus and lead the way once again. The mission of the Energy Action Coalition is to build a generation-wide clean energy movement. Through a carefully targeted strategy spurring tangible victories on hundreds of campuses, we intend to convey the urgency of the climate crisis with youth across America, while sharing a compelling vision of a renewable energy economy. By educating and empowering the generation with the most at stake, we are ready to be front and center in offering REAL solution to the problems of global warming and influencing the issue on a national and international level.
