Organization’s Objective
As the progressive movement's reliance on online technology grows, one problem stands out as a near-universal pain point: the tools we use to engage constituents don't work with each other. We track a supporter's donations with one tool, send her email with another, invite her to an event with a third, etc.
When our tools don't work together - technically, when they don't share data - we never know if our supporter is a $50 donor AND she opens every email BUT she's never attended an event. We have only snippets of data about her, stored in different places. This violates the most fundamental principle of effective organizing - Know Thine Constituents.
Organizers have had enough. Splintered tools were the #1 universal tech complaint in dotOrganize's 2006 survey. In a more recent NTEN survey, 83% of nonprofits called data sharing a significant challenge. If you deal with online tools, you deal with this problem.
Fortunately, organizers understand the amazing potential of knowing their constituents better. They want to combine the wide reach of their online tools with the depth of nuanced, multi-faceted relationships. And that only becomes possible when our tools are integrated.
